Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Endoscopy
What is it?
An upper GI endoscopy, also known as esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), involves using a flexible tube with a camera to examine the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine.
When It's Needed
This procedure helps diagnose conditions like acid reflux, ulcers, celiac disease, and Barrett’s esophagus. It also allows for biopsies and treatment, such as removing polyps or stopping upper GI bleeding.
Why It’s Important
Early diagnosis and intervention can prevent more severe complications, ensuring better long-term outcomes.
